There is a *demand* for using a "USB" cable as a *charge* cable.  Building a
cable with only two wires is cheaper than one with 4 (or more) wires -- eg 2
conductor cable is cheaper than 4 (or more) conductor cable.  (Yes, on one
level this is dumb, but...)
