Any clarity in your Fri, 16 Oct 2026 06:28:20 +0200 (CEST) post, which contrasts with this post's first section (space inserted): ____________________________________ From the computer to the USB stick. sudo dd if=debian-live-13.7.0-amd64-lxqt.iso of=/dev/sdX obs=4M oflag=sync status=progress or sudo pv -Y debian-live-13.7.0-amd64-lxqt.iso >/dev/sdX sync anyway i prefer : sudo dd if=debian-live.iso of=/dev/sdX bs=16M status=progress oflag=sync ____________________________________ which is itself pretty much a copy of Franco Martelli's earlier post. My "question",¹ which you took literally but didn't answer, was an attempt to get CGS to clarify their post after it had sat uncorrected for a day and a half. Instead CGS made light of it, as did Thomas. But your response added nothing to the thread, particularly after Franco's posts. ¹ pretty obviously rhetorical. > ________________________________ > > Does that answer your question? (Typo: it should read “or”—“source or > destination.”) > > ---------------------------- No. The critical problem is with specifying the destination, as it's important this is precisely correct. If you get the source wrong, you can in most cases just repeat the operation after correcting the command. The idea behind using Thomas's xorriso-dd-target script in his Tue, 13 Oct 2026 21:32:06 +0200 post is that it makes a number of checks that are unlikely to be true for anything other than "removable devices with disposable content" (from the manpage). Cheers, David.
