For ages I've been running this machine with the wifi interface disabled
and it hasn't caused any problems. That changed with the reboot today :(

I'm using XFCE and right clicking on the NetworkManager Applet brings up a
pop-up menu that has
  Enable Networking
  Enable Wi-Fi
  Enable Notifications
menu items. I normally do not have a check mark next to Enable Wi-Fi and
the wifi interface stays down and rebooting proceeds normally.

Today, rebooting took a very long time. I took a picture of the boot-up
screen and the boot process hung on
Job networking.service/start running (4 min 1s / 5 min 14s)

If I put the mouse over the NetworkManager Appleticon it says "No network
connection" but that's clearly wrong - I can send this msg.

If I run
nm-online
it counts down from 30 seconds and then says
Connecting............... 0s [offline]

which is clearly wrong since the ethernet connection works & you're reading
my email message.

How do I get back to the old behavior of _either_ the ethernet or wifi
connection being up has the machine thinking it's online?

TIA,
Lee
