I didn't mean to *tell* you exactly what to do, I just pointed out that it was possible to install Gnome 2.4 in pieces, which is what I did, and listed *some* of my installed packages by way of example. The list is incomplete. Perhaps you should back out the packages you installed and wait for the metapackage.
