What it does is create virtual machine inside your host OS (in your case, Linux). It then creates some virtual devices, like a soundblaster soundcard, a generic video device etc, which it connects to your real devices. But as far as hosted OS is concerned, it only sees the virtual devices, which means you don't get the full potential of your device. - -- John L.
