To install a precompiled kernel, add the proper source to
/etc/apt/sources.list:

deb http://www.backports.org/debian woody kernel-image-2.4.25-i386

Run apt-get update and then

apt-get install kernel-image-2.4.25-1-386

(there are also 586tsc, 686, k6 and k7 packages available)

After installing, configure your bootloader to use the initrd that came
with the kernel, rerun lilo and reboot.
