Having the same problem as described on /Message-id/: <[EMAIL PROTECTED] <http://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2003/debian-user-200310/msg02334.html>> but with Deb 3.0r2.
When I enter: su -c "cd /usr/bin/X11 ; ln XFree86 X"
I get ln: accessing 'Xfree86' : No such file or directory
I am a super newbie. If there are paths of solution I could try, could you please be very explicit.

Try "startx"; if that doesn't do anything for you, try the next two command, followed by "startx".
apt-get update apt-get install x-window-system
