I had the same problem on my labtop with ATI Radeon M9. Tried everything that is suggested in various postlist and nothing worked. Then I found this page http://www.gmpf.de/english/ and followed it's instuctions and voila! no more "Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0" but a working 3D OpenGL. :).
