In the former case there's no infrastructure if every "Random Joe" has to solicit funding individually. It will only work with big donors/sponsors that can pay a full project alone (because they have a genuine interest in seeing that project completed). With an infrastructure, smaller donations can be combined, it will have more visibility (since all developers promote the same thing, and since all completed projects are showing that the infrastructure is useful and working). > Why do you think Debian as a project, or the DPL, should be involved in > this? But if you have an external project where multiple DD propose projects and promote it (since they want it to be successful so that their projects are financed), do you really believe that it would not be seen as a Debian thing?
