Of course there are a lot of demand in mentoring. I do not think nobody has ever doubt that in previous emails! Some people have even tried doing different thinks in the past, like this: https://lists.debian.org/debian-mentors/2010/10/msg00005.html But mentoring and integrating new contributors requires a lot of time and efforts that you don't know if they will pay off or not.
