To simplify packaging w3m-variants' deb, I'm working to merge -img and/or -m17n extension of w3m in upstream.
I hope next major release of w3m will have -img extension. It takes much more time about -m17n. If you need m17n feature, please use w3mmee instead, which is already packaged. Thanks, Fumitoshi UKAI
