Just thought I'd drop a note to say that I'll most likely adopt this (with a little persuasion from Bastien Nocera =). I have no problems with the GNOME2 -> unstable plan, because updates to GNOME 1.4 in testing can be made by uploading to testing-proposed-updates where they will be autobuilt and installed into testing subject to approval by aj.
