Hi David, Thankyou for your interest in maintaining an orphaned package. You don't need access to collab-maint to prepare an updated package. The best way is to use mentors.debian.net to prepare and upload the new package and find a sponsor to get it into Debian. Instructions are at: http://mentors.debian.net/intro-maintainers You need a DD or DM that has worked with you to advocate your collab-maint request. The sponsor of your package can do that.
