The Linux Mint people (or the Mint guy if you will) have forked several GTK3-based desktop applications like Pluma and try to turn them into generic GTK-based desktop applications [1]. Unlike previously mentioned in this discussion, these applications aren't fully desktop-agnostic as they are written in GTK and the Mint people admit that themselves. Thus, I don't really see a benefit of having additional forked versions of these existing GTK-based applications in Debian but I just fear additional potentially unmaintained packages in the future (with my ports hat on, I am often the person who has to fix these things) and I am therefore strongly against uploading these forked versions to Debian.
