I've only seen the above tips after doing the packaging, and they're
pretty much what I ended up doing, so I guess it makes some sort of sense.
I didn't know about git-buildpackage and built the package with debuild,
though; I hope this isn't a problem.
Could someone with the appropriate rights please upload these changes?

Roland, do you still want the package revived which means having it in bookworm?
I would then review and upload your version.
