English nit: "a simple serial port device", not "the simple serial port device". But I'd like to ask - could you add the word "serial" to the short description? Say, Description : Microchip PIC microcontroller serial programmer or Description : Microchip PIC serial programmer software ? I ask because there's a well-known linux (x86 only, sadly) _parallel_ port PIC programmer called picprg. (Among other things, picprg is the way to get parallel port DonTronics PIC programmers to work in linux) Hmm... picprg has not yet been packaged for Debian, and I already maintain a different x86-specific parallel port bit-banging program...
