Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist * Package name : betterbird Version : N/A Upstream Contact: Betterbird <supp...@betterbird.eu> * URL : https://www.betterbird.eu/ * License : Mozilla Public License Version 2.0 Programming Lang: python, rust, javascript Description : Betterbird is a fine-tuned version of Mozilla Thunderbird with exclusive bugfixes, additional features and fewer regressions.
Betterbird is a fine-tuned version of Mozilla Thunderbird, Thunderbird on steroids, if you will. Betterbird is better than Thunderbird in three ways: It contains new features exclusive to Betterbird, it contains bug fixes exclusive to Betterbird and it contains fixes that Thunderbird may ship at a later stage. Please refer to this feature table (https://betterbird.eu/index.html#featuretable) for examples. This should give you an impression of where the project is headed. Easy adoption: You can install Betterbird at the same time as Thunderbird and run them on the same profile. That means that you can try out Betterbird with zero hassle, and go back to Thunderbird if you don't like it - which is unlikely. Please read the fine print on our support page (https://www.betterbird.eu/support/index.html). More information on why we're doing the project can be found at the FAQ (https://betterbird.eu/faq/index.html). What is Betterbird? Betterbird is a soft fork of Mozilla Thunderbird. Soft fork means that it is closely following the Thunderbird Extended Support Releases (ESR) therefore avoiding the mistakes of other forks which quickly lost track of upstream Thunderbird, thus opening users up to security vulnerabilities. Why Betterbird? Betterbird aims at providing a better user experience by fixing annoying bugs in Thunderbird and implementing new features. We will submit all changes to upstream to eventually benefit Thunderbird. A big improvement was the implementation of the much-requested multi-line view, as you can check here. A decent system tray ("systray") tooltip showing new messages and their folders. Also avaialble on Linux, it helps people who filter mail into many folders. I have to no plan to package/maintain this software myself, this is only a suggestion as I think it would be a useful addition to debian.
