* Package name : m9 Version : 0.4.1 Upstream Author : Alex T. Vermeulen <[email protected]> * URL : https://github.com/atverm/m9c * License : GPL-3.0-or-later Programming Lang: M9 (self-hosted; bootstrap C is checked in) Description : compiler and standard library for the M9 language M9 (Modula-9) is a Wirth-family language (the Modula-2 and Oberon line) for code that is written quickly and audited slowly: data science, finance and research infrastructure. Range, overflow and conversion checking are part of the language semantics and cannot be disabled; exceptions a procedure can raise appear in its signature; a borrowed parameter that is retained must be declared in the signature and is checked. The language is designed for machine-written, human-audited code: verbose, clear and refusing what is wrong, which makes it well suited to code written by AI agents and reviewed by people. The compiler m9c is self-hosted and emits C11; the bootstrap C is checked into the source tree, so building needs a C compiler and nothing else -- no previous M9 and no other toolchain. The package carries the compiler, the runtime, the standard library as source, generated module documentation, a language server and a formatter (both written in M9), and a manual page. Upstream provides an interactive tutorial (itself written in M9) at https://tutorial.modula9.net/ and prebuilt packages with build receipts at https://github.com/atverm/m9c/releases -- each package records the distribution, compiler and smoke test that produced it. I am the upstream author. The packaging (source format 3.0 quilt, lintian-clean: 0 E, 0 W, 0 I, 0 P) is maintained in the upstream tree and I intend to seek a sponsor through mentors.debian.net. I plan to maintain the package myself and would welcome a co-maintainer.
