I'm considering adopting libupnp since I wanted it for my home network and I had already packaged the update to 1.6 as a trial for my own use.
My attempt at a libupnp3 package for unstable can be found at http://debian.leverton.org/debian/dists/etch/main/source/libupnp_1.6.5-1.dsc http://debian.leverton.org/debian/dists/etch/main/source/libupnp_1.6.5-1.diff.gz http://debian.leverton.org/debian/dists/etch/main/source/libupnp_1.6.5.orig.tar.gz I would be very grateful if someone could review this package, and also if anyone felt able to mentor/sponsor me as maintainer. I'll update WNPP properly and retitle this bug if someone can check that my packaging skills are not too far out ! I tested this package by linking linux-igd against libupnp3 and it seems to work on the limited testing I can do (consisting of adding uPnP port forwards to linux-igd from Windows). linux-igd doesn't seem to use the updated APIs anyway. Of course the few uPnP aware packages already in Debian are using libupnp0 or libupnp2, but I decided it was not worth packaging 1.4.7 since the 1.6.x branch is already seeming more mature. I hope they will be able to update to libupnp3 if we can make it available before the Lenny freeze.
