Have you considered talking to Scott Ritchie <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> and/or to Stephan Hermann <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>? They both have worked on the wine package in ubuntu quite successfully AFAIS, and TBH, I don't see a particular reason why the package should be diverged across the two distributions.
