Some of the docs on the ftp site are added by package maintainer by doing something special when uploading a new package. I believe that debian policy is handled this way. Any of these that are also on the web site get there by my cron job. Some docs on the web and ftp site are added using cron jobs by me. Everything under releases/ is currently handled by the boot floppies group. Aph can correct this if it is wrong. The ddp stuff is handled by the ddp. :) Basically, it is a big mess. Here is what I'd like to see: All Debian documentation should be under CVS and accessable to people maintaining the web and ftp sites. It should be the responsibility of the people maintaining a document to generate all the different formats needed. It is then the responsibility of the web and ftp maintainers to mirror the documentation into their respective areas (they must be given access to the relevant CVS). The most recent stable version should be tagged, using 'stable' say, so the web and ftp maintainers don't need to know the details about different versions. Additionally, all documentation should be clearly marked with a contact address so problems can be sent to right people for correction. The webmasters are sent quite a few notices of broken links or documentation problems. I have given up on forwarding most of them since it is often unclear who the maintainer is or previous problems reported have never been fixed. This sucks. The basic idea here is that the people creating the documentation know the details of what they work on while the web and ftp maintainers don't. At the same time, documentation maintainers don't want to know the details of the web or ftp setup. -- James (Jay) Treacy [EMAIL PROTECTED]
