I didn't use mirrors because I tried the one from Spain and it sometimes gave me the pages in spanish while I had my configuration to request them in english. One day I tried www.uk.debian.org and it really works MUCH faster for me than getting the data across the ocean. :-) So mirrors are a GOOD idea, not only for downloading but also for website.
