Hello, I am a Debian user and a developer and I am very happy reading Debian Weekly News. Thank you for writing the News!
I am involved in Japanese translation of Debian web pages. I found that there are several person's names which cannot be written in ASCII characters in articles of Debian Weekly News. A part of such names are written in Kanji (Ideographic characters used in east Asia). Their names are written in ASCII transliteration (i.e., pronunciation-based ASCII expression). My name "Tomohiro KUBOTA" also. I'd like to modify these names written in both ASCII expression and their own original characters. Though ASCII can be read by every people and displayable by every machines, some people may be interested in their native names. Especially, for east Asians, it is important to know east Asian person's name in Kanji. It is also just for equality between ethnic groups; Non-ASCII ISO-8859-1 characters are often used while Kanji is not. I'd like to use "entity expression" to write their names. Though usage of Unicode would be the best way, it would force writers and translators to use Unicode-supporting text editors. For example, zhaoway --> 赵蔚 (zhaoway) May I modify these names in DWN articles? I'd like to modify as many names as I can investigate. Since I am a native Japanese speaker, I would be able to modify almost Japanese names and a little part of Chinese and Korean names. (I don't know which is better to write Korean names, in Hangul or in Hanja). --- Tomohiro KUBOTA <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> http://www.debian.or.jp/~kubota/ "Introduction to I18N" http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/intro-i18n/
