Package: xwayland Version: 2:1.20.8-2 Severity: important I've found a very strange bug trying to use excel (.xlsx) files in gnumeric in a default Gnome installation (i.e. under wayland, not Xorg).
When trying to navigate to different cells (moving by arrow keys, for instance), the cursor moves one or two cells (or none) and then freezes up (that is, the gnumeric window freezes up). I need to switch to a different application and then switch back again to see where the cursor has got to. Obviously this makes gnumeric unusable. The problem goes away if I start up Gnome with Xorg rather than wayland. That's why I'm filing this bug against xwayland rather than gnumeric (I've cc:d Dmitry Smirnov, the gnumeric maintainer). If there is some patch which gnumeric should be applying then please reassign. The problem seems to happen when reading a .xlsx file sent from a colleague (generated by Microsoft Excel). Native mode (.gnumeric) seems to work normally. The situation where this problem arises is quite specific (using .xlsx files in gnumeric), but is also very a common one. It makes gnumeric unusable under wayland, which is a deal-breaker. Essentially, it means wayland is unusable for anyone who wants to use gnumeric. Hence I'm marking the bug as Important (not Grave, since not everyone uses gnumeric). -- System Information: Debian Release: bullseye/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 5.6.0-1-amd64 (SMP w/8 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_AU.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_AU.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE=en_AU:en (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /usr/bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled Versions of packages xwayland depends on: ii libaudit1 1:2.8.5-3+b1 ii libbsd0 0.10.0-1 ii libc6 2.30-8 ii libdrm2 2.4.101-2 ii libepoxy0 1.5.4-1 ii libgbm1 20.0.6-3 ii libgcrypt20 1.8.5-5 ii libgl1 1.3.1-1 ii libpixman-1-0 0.36.0-1 ii libselinux1 3.0-1+b3 ii libsystemd0 245.5-3 ii libunwind8 1.2.1-9 ii libwayland-client0 1.18.0-1 ii libxau6 1:1.0.8-1+b2 ii libxdmcp6 1:1.1.2-3 ii libxfont2 1:2.0.3-1 ii libxshmfence1 1.3-1 ii xserver-common 2:1.20.8-2 xwayland recommends no packages. xwayland suggests no packages. -- no debconf information
