But if xterm is not run as a login shell, it won't read the ~/.bash_profile, and also (for a few years) setuid processes (xterm is one) will have their environment mashed to exclude customizations such as this. > The Error above is only in '(u)xterm' and not in 'mlterm' or 'eterm' xterm runs setuid to update utmp.
