Why not just re-create a binary package of old software, avoiding unwanted
dep?

dpkg-deb -x old-package.deb tmp/
dpkg-deb --control old-package.deb tmp/DEBIAN
<edit tmp/DEBIAN/control, replace xlib6g by xlibs>
dpkg-deb -b tmp .
