I had this problem. I fudged a link from libcurl.so.3.0.0 -> libcurl.so.2 and that fixed the discover problem which fixed the xserver-xfree86 installation problem. I also installed mdetect and read-edid just in case. I'm not sure that helped or not, but FYI.
