Ok, your XKB settings look safe. The error message seems to tell that XF86_Switch_VT_1 is not defined in your XKeysymDB. I do not know how this can happen. If I had a similar problem, I would check that this file is identical to the one found in libx11-data, and run strace -f -e open startx 2> open.log to see where X looks for its files.
