Package: xserver-xorg-video-i810
Version: 2:1.6.5-2
Severity: important

I have a laptop with an Intel i830 based chipset; lspci output below:
00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation 82830 CGC [Chipset Graphics
Controller]

With Xorg 6.8 and above, using 24 bit color, with any amount of stolen memory
and apparently any other combination of options, causes the machine to lock up
if the system returns from console to X11 for any reason. It also displays a
freaky psycadelic display. This includes APM and ACPI suspend modes. 16 bit
(truecolor) and 8 bit color work fine.

All versions of Xorg in Debian exhibit this behaviour.
Xig's X11 doesn't exhibit this behaviour.
Debian's Xfree86 4.3 doesn't exhibit this behaviour.
XFree86 4.4 doesn't exhibit this behaviour.
I have not tried XF86 4.5.0 or 4.6.

Closing since there was no reply to Drew's question within almost 6th
months (and the driver got lots of rework in the meantime).
If anybody ever reproduces, feel free to reopen.
