Hi! My X-server just locked up, too. It's the first time this happend (at least this year ;), it might have to do with the update I did yesterday (I'm using "sid"): At least xserver-xorg-core and xserver-xorg were updated.
Versions: xserver-xorg-core: Version: 2:1.4.1~git20071117-1 xserver-xorg: Version: 1:7.3+6 The mouse cursor still moved, but everything else was frozen. I couldn't even change the tty with SysRq+r Alt+F2 (or other F-Key). chvt didn't change the terminal either. It didn't switch until I finally killed the X-server (which didn't restore the video mode). strace, ltrace and gdb didn't show much (They didn't even respond to ^C -- I had to kill them) I'm not sure about the strace-output, don't remember it exactly: It was a single line, I think it said someting about SIGALARM being raised.
