I forgot to mention I'd checked xrestop, there is nothing suspicious
there. Looking now:

Pixmaps:    1544K total, Other:     259K total, All:    1803K total

Oops, I hadn't spotted those, I didn't realise
xorg-server was a separate source package from xorg.
