I had the same problem with a Microsoft Notebook Wireless Mouse 7000 and I got it to work. It seems like they didn't update the docs, I looked in the source code and the options have changed for mapping.
This is what mine looks like (you may have to remap to whatever buttons you want). Please check the Xorg error log to make sure everything worked.
