As long as it does not ask any questions during the upgrade, e.g. by dpkg's conffile prompt, otherwise you lose. :-( BTW, the restart-on-upgrade option mentioned in xfs.options(5) appears to be completely ignored, and your prerm script unconditionally stops the font server before the upgrade. Some people seem to think that this is a bad idea because the service is then down for several minutes (see [1], [2]).
