You can choose the adaptor with the option -vo xv:adaptor=n xvinfo shows two adaptors. This time overlay is the first so it's actually the default. When moving the window "containing" the overlay the overlay position is indeed not updated as fast as the window moves. The good thing is that this time I was unable to reproduce the issue.
