That's great news! Thanks But this needs to go into NEWS.Debian. In fact I looked there to see if any such changes were to be expected in this version, since I knew you've mentioned this before as the long-term development direction. Anyway, how about a transitional warning message if you detect any x11_options environment variable? I can produce a patch if you want. It should be trivial.
