It's not Declude and Imail that's the problem, it's the extreme number
of postmaster messages balling up in your spool that will never be
delivered. At least that has been my experience, I'm in the same boat
(small isp ~6,000 accounts but 60k - 80k messages per day). I wrote a
utility to help control this problem, you can download it at
http://spamreview.argolink.net/software, it's called Imail bounce
control.

My server (p4 1.8GHz, 512MB RAM), went from 5k-6k messages in queue to
400-500. I am fairly aggressive at killing the messages though. Imagine
your server is retrying 500 bounce messages every 30 minutes until max
tries is reached, now remember you get 500 more to try every 30 minutes,
even with only 6 tries that is 3,000 messages to try every 30 minutes.
i.e. 3,000 SMTP sessions that should have never been.

The program kill messages by 2 conditions, max attempts, and header
match. Max tries is self explanatory, header match looks for a perl
regular expression at the beginning of each header line of the original
message (always included in Imail postmaster messages).

Subject: [Declude.JunkMail] High Resource Usage

I am looking for suggestions to reduce the amount of resources that
Imail/Declude use. We are a small ISP and now and then we get hit hard
by a
spammer mass mailing our users ( which equal ~20,000 ) and we get hit
our
mail server all but shuts down due to the mass amount of incoming mail
and
Declude scanning each individual email, etc. Our mail server is a 2u
Dell
server with 2 pentium 1.13 gHz CPUs and 1 gb of ram.
