Chris,

Let me give you Declude's users one warning regarding this.  Even though a characterset such as GB2312 (Chinese) might be defined, that doesn't mean that the message will be in Chinese.  All or at least most of these charactersets still support standard ASCII characters, and this allows someone with a non-English characterset to send messages in English.  It's certainly wasteful as far as size goes, but it allows people to be bi-lingual without needing to change their settings.  I definitely have customers that do this, and many people that they communicate with.

So in essence, a foreign characterset doesn't automatically mean a foreign language.

It would have probably been more useful to expose this to Declude's filters so that users could have better control over this.  For instance:

    CHARACTERSET   10   IS   GB2312
    CHARACTERSET   10   IS   Big5

I so something similar currently, but I also provide exceptions when a filter hits at least three common words such as "the", "and", "or", "but", "that", "this", etc., since this indicates that English was used despite the characterset.  If you just simply capture such messages, it excludes these things from more granular control and other things like review and reprocessing mechanisms.

Does anyone have a good source for listing all the character sets? Chris
does Declude have a KB for this - if not I bet his would be a good one to
add.

BANCHARSET is a new directive, you add this directive to your declude.cfg
like noted below. You need to know the character set in order to ban

those

that you determine unacceptable. A new directory will be created in your
spool where these messages will be immediately quarantined. I hope this
helps.

#BANCHARSET iso-2022-jp

#BANCHARSET koi8-r

#BANCHARSET windows-874

#BANCHARSET gb2312

#BANCHARSET big5

#BANCHARSET Windows-1251

I am going to do the upgrade again this time putting the following

commands

in the cfg file:

OUTBOUNDSCANNINGSPAM ON
INBOUNDSCANNINGSPAM ON

Obviously this should not have happened and it was unfortunate. I believe
Declude is getting a message ready for everyone.

I will let you know the results shortly to confirm that that was it

Thanks for your responses

Last night at 8:11PM I upgraded from 4.3.7 to 4.3.14

>From that point on we stopped catching all spam for these clients that

have

their own mail server. We just filter their mail for spam and pass it on.

I just reverted back to 4.3.7 and now we are catching spam again for them

We catch over 4000 spam messages per day for one of these clients alone so
you can imagine their complaint this morning.

Anyone know what would have caused this?

Thank you
