They just don't like me, I guess. Never heard of a "bess" proxy. Where I work, we use vanilla squid 1.1 and it works fine here. I don't think I can help you a lot, you'd best ask the apt folks to look into it, so they may add "compatibility" options to work around your proxy situation.
