Followup-For: Bug #187889 Package: apt Version: 0.5.27 I have some friend on IRC wich got that message: 'E: Invalid record in the preferences file, no Package header',
after upgrading woody to sarge. It seems that some script did touch /etc/apt/preferences, and suddenly in the upgrade apt-get sttoped working with that message. I think it's a quite critical bug for the sarge release. people should be able to upgrade to sarge without problems - the scripts shouldn't create a void /etc/apt/preferences file if they're not going to put something on it, since apt breaks if they're nothing there. Another option would be to modify apt so it doesnt stops if there're nothing in the file, but I guess the first option is much easier now that sarge is going to be released.
