Answer unknown. In one symptom, the field name for a table was corrupted, so the program crashed with a 'Field not found' error.
So it seems like I am corrupting my own memory, yes. In other symptoms, I have access violations and invalid pointer operations. So it may be memory mis-management. Or again, just fallout from trashing my own memory. The answer may be either or both. I cannot say for sure.
