That's good to know Paul, I had the same kinds of problems trying to get ZEOS 
to work a while back.. they must have improved it and the documentation.

 I decided that dbexpress was just to hard to get working, so I switched to 
ZEOS 6.6 Beta and all is now sweetness and light.
