Hi,
My explanation should leave you with some option. I started about 5 years ago working on what you want to try.I really wish that the documentation you have found was available! At the time, my job was to create an sms system for Radio Station DJs to receive sms from listeners! Considering 5 years (and in Kenya), there wasn't much technologogy available so I had to rely on my Nokia phone. I could not even get a GSM modem (for less than $400)! I bought a data cable and purchased some Delphi components (oxygen software) which I used to make the first version which could talk to Nokia for both sending and receiving.worked very very well.. Only problem, it was slow.. Sms sending and receiving is slow on mobile phones. Then I was able to move to GSM modem. Oxygen could not talk to GSM modems.and I did not want the hustle of AT commands. I purchased a component - Boomerang! This worked well again and I was able to create the first Interactive TV sms software in East Africa! 4yrs later..that software is still in use with the same modem! NOTE: this is mostly used to receive sms messages. Then, the product caught the attention of the 2 mobile network operators in Kenya and from there. I managed to get my SERVER to be connected directly to their SMSC server (via SMPP protocol). That's what my company (www.bernsoft.com) uses to send sms. Technology now has advanced and you can develop an nice program that can send (and possibly ) receive sms without having to do the hardware bit (AT commands). Over the internet, its possible to deliver sms to anywhere in the world using third party gateway such as that run by my company or clickatell. If you (or anyone else in this forum) need further help on how to start testing your service, contact me then maybe I can give you further guidance on what its taken to build sms solutions with Delphi 5 / 6 and 7! Having absolutely no previous experience programming such apps I have been googling for info to help me. I found developershome.com/sms/ quite useful for gaining a beginner's insight, and at first glance setting up an app to use sms over http or https seems relatively trivial. My questions, then. to those with experience are: am I wrong? are there pitfalls I should be considering? are there reasons why another protocol should be used? do you know a good source of information . . . . ? Thanks for any help you can provide. Regards Steve *************************************************************************** This e-mail and any files transmitted with it are confidential.
