I believe he wants to do all that locally, not remotely.

You will not be able to do that, unless you have full access to the remote 
server... 

and even if you did you will still have alot more headaches than if you 
downlaoded the file and then tried to unarchive it locally.



Problems off the top of head to do it remotely:

Access to execute an application remotely (to unzip the file)

Access rights to create folders and files remotely when you do unarchive the 
file.

Unarching it first before download will mean more bandwidth, could be alot more.



Ftp servers usally will not give you access to EXECUTE rights on their server, 
huge vulnerability



Maybe I read your post wrong. But if I am wrong then all you will do is 
download the file, and then unzip it

Which isnt hard. If Im right, then you will need to live in a perfect world to 
achieve what you want.
