My idea was also to create and set the relations from within delphi, but as a
start, Yes, I did use access to create a usable database with a relation (my
focus was at this stage more on de appl and not on creating the database as
this would have more tables in the future.).
I haven't been working on this appl for the last week, but will proceed within
the next week or so.
thanks for the help and suggestions

DataAware components
Well you still haven't said whether you have established your table
relationship within Access or not, but it does work that way there. You set the
relationship on the diagram page and it is automatically set when you associate
a grid with the table (that being said, I still hate Access).. I would ignore
Access and set everything within the ADO tables and datasets. If you set the
Master/Detail relationship you won't have to locate the records yourself.
Personally, I use Advantage TDatasets in Local mode because they're virtually
identical to the BDE and it's ultra-simple to migrate BDE apps over.

Thanks David. I will have a look if a master-detail will solve my problem.
I thought the benifit (and speed) of a relational database would be larger, but
if I have to locate the record within a second table myself, what is the
benefit of a relational database?

What is the relationship between the tables and how is it established? If
within Access, it probably won't propagate to the controls. I'm not that
familiar with ADO datasets, is there a MasterSource property of the TADOTable
component? If so, you should establish the (presumably Master/Detail)
relationship there. If not, you can always use the OnDataChange to set/reset a
filter condition. Locate() won't work because it will only find one record
(assuming it's a Master/Detail relationship) .
To load the image, use the OnDataChange event of the associated TDatasource.

I have a form that contains different DBedit controls.
The primary information comes from one table. Some of the field has been
connected within Access to a field within a second table.
The first table contains personal information; the second the detailed company
information.
I would like that some DBedit controls that are connected to this second table
to be updated also when I navigate through the records in the first table.
Do I have to to a search via a 'locate' command to get this working?
I thought that, because of this relation between the field, there could be a
'shortcut' ; this should be the main advantage of these relations between the
different tables in the first place.
Also, I use the onchange event to trigger the loading an image (from a blob
field). Is this the correct event to connect to?
