Hi all,
As I didn't yet see any posts on the dB list so far, and as this is
a very generalized question anyway, I thought I'd ask here.
I've finally got D2009 all setup the way I want it, and am finding
Dr. Bob's intro course a much better resource than what I had read before,
and so I'm just about ready to start work on a new personal project that
involves the use of a Com dll for right-click context menu access and an
embedded Blackfish dB to provide 2 way access to specific user data. It's
quite different from anything I've done before, and as usual, I began
thinking about this one more than a couple months ago, designing the entire
system using "bubble" diagrams like those we used to facilitate movement
patterns and flow back when I was an architecture major.
Although using these kinds of rough, generic diagrams do offer some
value, I'd really like to do this one using a more specific programming
model, and as ER Studio came with D2009, I thought this might be a good
choice for getting into this...especially as concerns the dB backend.
For those of you familiar with ER Studio and/or any CASE modeling
tool, the most important question I have to answer before I get started, is
which of the many diagramming methods available should I start with? I'm
not doing anything big, so I want to start out with a method that is
relatively easy but can be used now as well as for more complicated projects
later on. And of course, I also want to be sure the method I select will be
of value doing things the Delphi way.
As I understand it, I should be able to model a design of the dB as
well as the front-end user program that employs it within ER Studio. Then I
can use the resultant diagrams to automate much of the actual physical
program within the Delphi IDE. Or can it only be used for reverse
engineering of a project already built?
The pdf file for ER Studio doesn't really offer comparisons of the
various methods that can be used or what the main differences between them
are, so if anyone can offer a suggestion and why it would be a good one, I
would appreciate it.
