The new ISQLW (Query Anal) is horrible and they must
have used different programmers on this version. It would be nice if they
extended the SQL language to allow you to write your own functions you
could
use within a query (eg. like GetDate()).

IB has the ability to call User Defined Functions (UDFs) which give you
exactly this ability - there's a free UDF library available for download
which has exactly this, and many other functions.
This and Event Alerters and Roles (BDE 502 will support Roles I think) are
among the other reasons IB is a good choice (in it's size range).
