Delphi 4 do not install on Windows 2000 Beta 3.
I installed Beta 3 over the weekend and the Delphi 4 setup program fails to
work properly. The problem apparently is the use of 16Bit CAB files from the
installshield installation.
The 16Bit cab files hold the custom installshield dialogs which ask for the
Registration Number, and a few other dialogs which the setup program uses.
It is unable to load these as Win 2000 does not like them (16Bit that is).
There is a fix to this by Borland, you need to get a newer CD off them, but
I hear it also has a problem. You can only install to the default location.
Not too much of a problem, but I install all borland apps to a directory
called Borland and then the version. So say \Borland\D4, this is because of
an app we wrote which compiles all out source code using the DCC32.exe
files, or DCC.exe for D1.
Other than getting a new CD, you need to either install D4 on an OS like 98,
NT 4 and then upgrade the OS to Win 2000, or copy the Run-Image directory
from the CD, and then use an existing copy of D4's registry settings.
I am about to try the last option.
