I have a fairly large collection of serial comps that I have
experimented with.
For talking to boxes attached to the serial port I like
TAsynch32 by VARIAN (I have version 1.49)
TComport by Dejan Crnila (now up to version 2.00)
If you want to spend some money I hear good things about Async
Professional by TurboPower Software.

BTW - If anybody is working with comms, I highly recommend ComLab - its
really nice working with ComLab & being able to find out exactly what is
happening between devices.
