you you will _have_to_ run it off one server. Period. Have a look atht
eIB Event Alerter component - it should allow callbacks on when a table
has changed.

Nope, you can't do that, AFAIK.

No replication will work with realtime conncurrency - thats why you have
1 DB machine/process and N clients. Replication is NOT a good solution
to any problem, except if you do it on a time-period basis over
something slow like a WAN.

IB has had this since (atleast) 4.2. Also, you dont have a log, so no
having a massive log file bloat out on you.

to backup:
gbak -b -user sysdba -pass masterkey server:pathto/file.gdb
somelocalfile.gbk
the server can be running normally when you do this - you dont have to
take it offline to get a decient backup.
You can also do this via the GUI. Its about the same, tho its graphical.

Nope, I can't - nothing has been announced yet EXCEPT the intention to
opensource it. The US needs to decide on HOW they are going to do it
(GPL, LGPL, proprietry etc) first.
5.6, which is the current release, is (AFAIK) not going to be open
sourced, tho it will continue to be sold, supported, maintained etc.

I have on idea about PHP or Perl, but there are JDBC drivers, and native
client drivers available. Mark Derricutt ([EMAIL PROTECTED] if he's
