What I'm doing at present - when installing a component package, I copy the new package to my C drive, under a components folder, giving it a folder of it's own e.g.. WPTools. Then I go into Delphi 6 and choose Component --> Install Packages. I click on Add and surf to the bpl file within the component package folder. I select the BPL and it installs, placing a tick next to the package. I also make sure that under Tools --> Environment Options, under the library tab, that I have the path to the component package bpl, listed there.
Normally this works well, however, every so often, the next time I go back into Delphi, it comes up with a message saying: "The dynamic link library xxxx.bpl could not be found in the specified path ......" (it lists a heap of Borland & WINNT paths - but nothing from the library paths I've set up) (I don't know where it's getting these paths from). I go back into the component packages list and find it is now unticked and trying to tick it again, just brings up the same error message just described. My only way around it so far, is to copy the bpl files of that component, to $Delphi/bin. This seems silly, as it has the path for the component and it shouldn't be necessary. I just installed Delphi 6 on someone's PC, and all our 3rd party components are playing up in this way. I've checked the registry and can't see anything significant. Any suggestions? I've come across this before but don't remember how I resolved it - think I just fluked it.
